Functional Fashion: Bittersweet Hair Tie Bracelet by Maria Shireen + GIVEAWAY

Bittersweet Hair Tie Bracelet Giveaway

When fashion and function collide, the results can be absolutely amazing. It's even more amazing when the result solves a common problem in a clever way. Functional fashion is not a new concept by any means, though.

For example, you may be familiar with the Fitbit: one of many different bracelets you can wear to help set and track personal fitness goals. Although the original design is not the most aesthetically pleasing example of functional fashion, the function is definitely there. Critics claimed that the device's lack of style would deter people from wearing it at all times. The demand for a more stylish wristband prompted a collaboration with Tory Burch to develop a collection of trendy accessories, which was music to the ears of fashion-forward fitness enthusiasts everywhere!

The popularity of the Tory Burch Fitbit wristbands show that the combination of fashion and function can be lifestyle game changers. Even everyday items like elastic hair ties can be turned into a fashion statement. Women everywhere wear a hair tie around their wrist everyday, not to make a fashion statement, but simply because its the most practical place for it if you can't (or don't want to) put your hair up. While common, this habit can slow blood circulation in your wrist and leave an unattractive red mark. Maria Shireen and her husband developed an elegant solution called the "bittersweet bracelet." Initially created for personal use, the concept has gone viral among women so the couple decided to make a business of it!

The bittersweet bracelet is a sleek stainless steel bangle with a narrow groove that holds the elastic in place and prevents those uncomfortable indentations on your wrist. It is the perfect accessory for any outfit, day or night!

Since the bracelets have been a big hit at Cheerful Chic, we have restocked them and want to give one lucky lady a chance to win her own! Enter via the widget below. Ends March 31.

Women We Admire: Lara Casey

Lara Casey

The month of February marks a year since I began building Cheerful Chic, and so far it has been an amazing journey full of learning experiences, struggles, and victories big and small! As our first birthday approaches, I have been reflecting on my experiences thus far. I wouldn't be where I am today without the support and encouragement of friends and loved ones, but also the inspiration and knowledge from some amazingly strong and passionate women. I thought I'd share with you all some of the women that I admire and I hope that you find some inspiration in their stories like I did.

A longtime friend and fellow #GirlBoss recently introduced me to a inspirational speaker/author named Lara Casey. Lara's story is a familiar one, one that many can relate to: an average woman with big dreams. Despite suffering several devastating blows throughout her personal and professional life, she finally found "her calling" and worked to make her dreams a reality. After years of hard work and many humbling experiences, her work paid off. Through her book, blog, and "powersheets" she inspires women everyday by providing guidance and helping them set goals and take action to live a life they love. I highly recommend taking the time to read her inspiring story. There is so much value to be gained from reading her experiences and I have listed my personal takeaways below:

1. Chase your dreams and no matter how many times you get kicked down, don't ever give up.
2. Don't let your fears take over. Own them and destroy them.
3. Life isn't meant to be perfect. Embrace imperfection and don't stress over it.
4. You don't have to "do it all" or "have it all together" and that's okay. Don't beat yourself up, just do the best you can.
5. Surround yourself with people who believe in you, challenge you, and share your passion for making dreams happen.
6. It's never too late to start working towards your dreams.

I am so excited about what the future holds for us here at Cheerful Chic and look forward to having you along for the journey. Thank you so much to Heather for introducing me to Lara Casey!

Who are the women that you admire? Let us know in the comments!

Blogger Spotlight: 5 Up-and-Coming Style Blogs You Need to Follow

We're always on the lookout for new fashion blogs with great content, especially smaller fashion bloggers! Of course, all bloggers have to start somewhere, but I've often found that the quality of content goes down when readership goes way up. This may be due to the fact that larger household-name companies start to sponsor them and as a result, the content is no longer about sharing their style & love for fashion, but about promoting the newest fashions of the highest bidder.

Anyway, that isn't the point of this post! It's always refreshing to find a new fashion blog with a new perspective on personal style! We have compiled a small list of bloggers with high quality content that deserve some of the spotlight! Definitely keep an eye on these ladies--they are definitely going places!

The Witty Housewife: We discovered her newly launched blog on Instagram just days before it went live. Her writing style is honest, slightly sarcastic & and super refreshing, and pairs nicely with the bright & beautiful photos that capture her outfits. We can't wait to see what she has planned for the future!

Hello Mrs. This Californian duo wasn't on our radar until they reached out to us about collaborating, and we are so glad they did! They love mixing & matching to create budget-friendly boho styles and the results are stunning! They are incredibly talented at what they do! Danielle is a wedding photographer who loves fashion and helping other people find their style! Alexa is a model for Three Bird Nest and has a degree in Fashion Merchandising. Their writing style is fun & the photos capture their style and love for fashion fabulously!

Josie in Color: We found Josie on Instagram and fell in love with her love of color! Some people are afraid of color beyond a bright bracelet or pair of pumps, but not Josie--she embraces color in all its bold & beautiful glory! And we love it! The tone of her blog is super fun and easy-going! She is sporting a cheerful smile in nearly every picture, so its hard not to be captivated by her personable style!

XOXO Bella: We love Bella's blog because it has a lovely mix of posts covering a variety of topics: fashion, food, friends, fitness, and more! She has a fun and laid back personality that shines through her writing and makes her blog enjoyable to read!

How Do You Wear That: Love her style! Her style posts range from super comfy and casual to sophisticated and chic. Her blog is a fun read with awesome photos and great style tips!

This is just a few of the fabulous ladies we love to follow! Stay tuned for more spotlight posts and leave a comment with your favorite up & coming style blogger and maybe you'll see them here next time! :)
